Wing Leaders - Peer Mentoring Program

2 students

Student Success Programs (SSP) is excited to offer a unique mentorship opportunity in the form of Wing Leaders. Current KSU students acting as Wing Leaders provide support for first-year students within selected course blocks as they adjust to campus life and find their wings at KSU.

The Wing Leader peer mentoring program matches incoming, first-year students with a returning student above 15 credit hours, to help during the transition into college. The mentors will support new students in setting and achieving their goals, both academically and personally.

The vision for the mentoring program aligns with several first-year outcomes identified in SSP’s strategic priorities, including creating a sense of belonging, developing a strong network of support, and providing resources to introduce and successfully assist new students to college-level requirements.

The Wing Leader peer mentoring program aims to help new students meet a range of unique challenges—such as accessing key campus resources, maintaining their scholarships, and persisting through and beyond their first semester in college.

Find Your Way with Wing Leader Peer Mentoring at KSU

Starting college can be an exhilarating yet challenging experience. It’s a journey of discovering new pathways, forming lifelong friendships, and shaping your future. But you don’t have to navigate this journey alone. The Wing Leader peer mentoring program at Kennesaw State University (KSU) is here to ensure that you have the guidance, support, and community you need to thrive, especially during your critical first semester.

How a Wing Leader Will Support You:

Guidance and Orientation: Your Wing Leader is someone who has been in your shoes and has successfully navigated the complexities of college life. They can offer you valuable insights into the academic and social aspects of KSU, helping you adjust to college life more smoothly.

  • Academic Support: Whether it’s choosing the right classes, understanding academic policies, or finding study groups, your Wing Leader is there to support you. They can help you develop effective study habits and connect you with academic resources to enhance your learning experience.

  • Social Integration: Making new friends and finding your community can be daunting. Wing Leaders facilitate your introduction to student organizations, events, and social gatherings, helping you build connections and foster a sense of belonging.

  • Personal Development: Beyond academics, college is a time for personal growth. Your Wing Leader can encourage you to explore new interests, develop leadership skills, and engage in self-discovery. They provide a supportive environment where you can discuss challenges and celebrate achievements.

  • Professional Preparation: As you contemplate your future career, a Wing Leader can offer insights into internships, networking opportunities, and career resources. They can guide you in building a professional portfolio and developing skills that employers value.
