Carmen Skaggs

Dr. Carmen Trammell Skaggs is Assistant Vice Provost for Academic Affairs  and Professor of English.  She received her PhD in English from the University of Georgia, MTS from Duke University, and BA from Mercer University.  Prior to joining KSU in 2015, Dr. Skaggs served as Chair of the Department of English at Columbus State University in Columbus, Georgia.  From 2015-2021, she served as Associate Dean for Academic Support and Academic Affairs in the Radow College of Humanities and Social Sciences. Her research examines the literary work as a site for negotiating the tension between the social and cultural.  The author of Overtones of Opera in American Literature from Whitman to Wharton (LSU Press 2010), she has published articles and chapters on the work of Edith Wharton, Willa Cather, Walt Whitman, and Carson McCullers.
